Help! My baby is teething!
For most babies, teething happens sometime in the first year, often around 6 months. And for those of you who have watched your baby cut a tooth, you know that teething pain can make even the most relaxed baby fairly unsettled. Have you ever had tooth pain? If so, you will remember the pain that can course through your whole face and make sleeping, feeding and relaxing impossible; and it's often the same for bubs when they have new teeth coming through.
So what can you do to help your little one return to the angel you know and love? Read on... we're here with some ideas to help.
There are many options beyond Nurofen and Panadol that can be effective at reducing pain and inflammation when needed.
Apply Pressure and Cold
It is well known that applying pressure and cold can help alleviate pain. Some things to try include:
- Place Expressed Breast Milk (EBM) in individual portions in the Multiportion and freeze. Give to baby as the perfect healthy, baby ice-cream when needed.
- Freeze a facewasher and give to baby to chew on.
- Give baby a cold baby spoon that has been placed in the fridge or freezer.
Give baby something to chew on
- Cucumber sticks - frozen or cooled in the fridge.
- Make some natural teething biscuits for baby to chew on.
- Make a cold fruit puree in the Babycook (go here for some recipe ideas!)
- A baby's dummy can help if they use one.
Use teething toys
- Silicone teething toys (or our first age ergonomic spoons)
- France's 'other' baby favourite - Sophie the giraffe!
- Wooden teething rings
Natural Remedies
Many parents swear by these natural remedies for teething pain although the scientific evidence supporting them is differing. Remember to do your own research when deciding what is best for your baby!
- Chamomile – Chamomile is a popular remedy for teething pain. You can make some chamomile tea and freeze into icy poles in the Multiportion or blend a small amount into baby's purées.
- Amber necklaces - For more information about what they are and how they are claimed to work, go here and for reasons not to use an amber necklace, check out this article by Babycentre here.
