Boiled Eggs in the Babycook
People of all ages (babies included) love a boiled egg. The hard part, is knowing how long to cook it to make it just the way you or your baby likes it- hard, soft or somewhere in between. The folks over at Serious Eats have gone to much effort to research and explain to us the best and easiest way to cook a boiled egg. The best news is, they suggest steaming your 'boiled' eggs! Which means the Babycook has found another reason to be our best friend in the kitchen!
With Easter coming up, this is the perfect opportunity to fetch some eggs and cook up some much healthier Easter treats for the little ones in your life. Who knows what to give a baby when they can't have chocolate anyway? Further below, I've even included the instructions to make all natural coloured baby Easter Eggs, inspired by the clever people at Oh Happy Day!
Boiled (Steamed!) Egg Recipe
- Suitable from: 8+ month old (for more information on introducing allergens to your infant, see our blog post or check out ASCIA's advice)
- Preparation time: none
- Cooking time: 7-15 minutes
- Ingredients: Eggs (straight out of the fridge is fine!)
- Place the eggs in the steamer basket.
- Fill water up to Level 1 (100ml) for soft boiled, or Level 2 (150ml) for hard boiled and press steam. (If you like your eggs somewhere in between we recommend trialling different amounts of water between the two to find what you like. Then you can replicate it exactly every time!)
- When the Babycook has finished, carefully remove the eggs and place straight into some ice cold water and cool for a minute or two.
- Peel the shell from the eggs.
Et voila, bon appétit!
Chef’s tip
If you would like to colour your eggs, for Easter or just for a bit of fun then you will need to complete steps 1-4 above. Then place the peeled eggs in your natural dye. As the natural dyes are made purely from food sources, these may be used with babies as long as you have tried the food before, and know they can tolerate it. The longer the eggs are submerged in the dye, the deeper the colour.
